How to play

1. The target is numbers 1 to N squared in ascending order, left to right, top to bottom.
2. Tap a cell to rotate the 2x2 block with that cell as its top-left corner 90 degrees clockwise.
3. Try to place the lowest unsorted numbers first using local 2x2 rotations, leaving room to maneuver.
4. Continue until every cell holds its correct number and the board is fully sorted.

How do you play Twiddle?

Twiddle gives you a grid of scrambled numbers. Tap any cell to rotate the 2x2 block anchored there 90 degrees clockwise; long-press or right-click to rotate counter-clockwise. Keep rotating until the numbers are in ascending order, lowest top-left to highest bottom-right.

Is every Twiddle scramble solvable?

Yes. For grids 3x3 and larger, every arrangement of the numbers is reachable because a 2x2 rotation is a 4-cycle (an odd permutation), so both even and odd permutations can be produced. The puzzles here are scrambled with legal moves, guaranteeing a solution.
